Update: Well, it happened again. Mitch McConnell once again inexplicably froze during a press conference, just a month after the first incident. This time, it came as a reporter was asking the 81-year-old senator if he planned on running in 2026, which really added a nice layer of absurdity to the whole thing. But hey, at least the Capitol physician has declared McConnell to be “medically clear” to essentially directly effect the lives of 332 million people.
Overshadowing even the apparent admission of the government hoarding alien corpses (or perhaps even playing baseball with live aliens they’ve captured) that took place earlier in the day, Mitch McConnell inexplicably froze during the introductory remarks of his press conference Wednesday afternoon.
After opening with “We’ve had good bipartisan cooperation and a string of…” the Senate Minority Leader completely froze and looked off into the distance for nearly 30 seconds before being whisked away by Senators John Barrasso of Wyoming and Joni Ernst of Iowa, who were standing next to McConnell during the event.
Though McConnell eventually returned to the press conference to answer questions from reporters, it’s obviously fair game to wonder about his health. This is especially true since the 81-year-old McConnell is only four months removed from suffering a concussion and broken rib after a fall at a private dinner. He returned to the Senate in April after a six-week recovery, but clearly something isn’t right with the Kentucky Republican, even if Barrasso wants to assuage anyone’s concern by praising McConnell’s ability to “answer every question that the press asked him today… and you may note that he answered more questions today than he usually does.”
This continues the totally awesome trend of having the country run by geriatric politicians, some of whom couldn’t tell you where they are on any given day. Dianne Feinstein finally returned to the Senate in May after a monthslong absence recuperating from shingles treatment and battling just being 89 years old, but it’s clear she is no longer capable of being in the role.
As for President Joe Biden, he’s going to be 81 years old himself this year and running for re-election in 2024. Surely nothing concerning can come from potentially having an 85-year-old president.
